The History of Trident
Tyre Centres
Trident Tyre Centres in Mount Gambier and
Portland are the consolidation of many years
experience, prudent business practices,
clear and defined staff training and policies
and a vision based around servicing the
public and commercial community of the region..
Since the commencement of Trident Tyre Centre
with a staff of 4 in 1980 our work force
has grown to today to employ 35.
We currently employ 2 part time and 2 full
time Administration Staff, 7 Mechanics,
1 Trainee Tyre Technician, 11 Tyre Technicians,
1 Wheel Alignment Technician, 2 Service
Managers, 3 Store Managers, 4 Assistant
Managers, 2 Management (Directors and Founders).
Constantly ensuring staff are trained in
diverse areas, the customer, customer handling,
store image, communication ownership, non-verbal
communication, account management, new business
and marketing.
Our tyre centres offer to the customer the
best in trained staff, facilities, products
and service standards.
The History of Trident
Tyre Centres
In 1980 two locals had a dream: to work
for themselves. They believed in the South
East of South Australia and knew that one
day the area, paricularly Mount Gambier,
would receive the acknowledgement and attention
it deserved.
They wrote their shopping list:
- The right site
- Capital to purchase the building to
start their dream
- Stock that would suit the area
- Suppliers that would help them achieve
their dream
- Local staff who would share their dream
The work was hard and the hours long,
but within 3 years they had outgrown the
Railway Terrace site and in 1983 moved
to the Bay Road site. In 1984 the two
Directors, Alf Bamford and David Barry,
decided to open a second operation in
Portland, Victoria. It soon became apparent
that a Centre to assist with the needs
of the local trucking companies was a
necessity, thus the Truck Division at
Avey Road was born. This store opened
in 1990. Since the commencement of Trident
Tyre Centre with a staff of 4 in 1980
our work force has grown to today to employ
35 staff.
